Interview transcript 2012:

- Who is the Jzzbucket?
Jzzbucket is a funky solo project by Martijn Form, that's me :) The goal is to make a strong album that has electro influences. An upbeat drum sound, a lot of jazzy brass and a nice warm vintage music production. I played most of the guitar, electric bass and keyboards, but I also make use of samples.

- Where does the name come from?
Last year I was in the subway of New York and saw this guy playing fantastic jazz rhythms played on plastic buckets. So cool to see and hear. Bucket is also a synonym for me of all the different styles of electro, jazz, funk and soul I like to put in my music.

- How would you describe your music yourself?
I call it Vintage Electro Jazz. Vintage because I am very inspired by blue note records from the 60s. I am so in awe of Rudy van Gelder, the engineer on most of those great jazz albums. Electro part because I really like to incorporate some electronic/dance elements in my music, and especially my live act.
Nu-jazz like St.germain or Jazzanova maybe? But with more big beat and heavy bass…

- How is the music came about?
After all my life having listened to Blue Note and especially legends like Grant Green, Jimmy Smith, but also Led Zeppelin. The need to make something that isn't hip/hype or hot, but something that I still love in 10 years time.

- Why self-releasing CD? There were two labels interested, and not the least I may say.
But the negotiations took so long, and labels go through a difficult time, so a budget for promotion is limited, and so I decided to just take a leap of faith and produce my own CD itself, mix and edit.

- What do you want to achieve with this music?
This CD is funky, jazzy with lounge-like elements in it, but hopefully people will pick up the several layers in the music. One of the songs called Chasing the dream and includes a speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, and another number a beautiful speech by Malcolm X.
